Island Beats Super Concert: What an incredible night of Caribbean music!
On Saturday 24th August 2019, all roads led to Trinidad’s concert capital, the Queen’s Park Savannah for an explosion of Caribbean music in what is being called the biggest concert of the summer as Carifesta 2019 came to an end.
The night was filled with nostalgia as a unified Caribbean audience which included patrons from many of the Carifesta 2019 delegations sang and dance to music from many of their favorite Caribbean artistes of today and yesteryear.
With the theme ‘One Caribbean, Many Beats’, the Island Beats super concert presented an amazing cast line up which included some of the region iconic musical stars. One of the main headliners of the night was Jamaican Grammy Award Winning artiste, Shaggy who closed off the night performing many of his well-known hits and had the audience singing along word for word.
Another anticipated highlight came from the Soca King of the world, the incomparable Machel Montano delivering yet another energetic performance joint on stage with his live band and monk dancers, representing for Trinidad and Tobago.
Also stealing the show and proving that music has the power to transcend any language barrier was the renowned band all the way from Guadeloupe- Kassav’, who delivered a world-class performance from beginning to end as they had the crowd on their feet dancing and chanting along to every one of their songs.
Also featured in this Caribbean callaloo festival, were performances from some of your favorite Caribbean Soca stars such as the Bajan Queen herself, the beautiful and talented Alison Hinds taking us down memory lane with her memorable and sassy hits. Also representing the island of Antigua was soca star Ricardo Drue who performed a few of his beloved soca anthems.
With too many acts to mention, the night also belonged to the soca Queen of the world, Calypso Rose, Chutney soca superstars Neval Chatelal, Nishard M and the icon himself Rikki Jai. Soca veteran Blaxx alongside his band the All-Stars, the soca princess Nailah Blackman and three-time International Soca Monarch winner, Voice all graced the stage.
Despite the late start to the show, it was truly a monumental night and perfect way to end the CARIFESTA XIV celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago. With each song and each island represented, it was definitely a well celebrated night reminding us of how far we’ve come as a people.
Special thanks to the management and staff at Tropix Entertainment and IP Music International on yet another successful concert and a job well done.
