It was an explosive cultural celebratory fiesta as CARIFESTA XIV officially kicked off.
With over 20 contingents arriving in Trinidad and Tobago for the 10 day arts and culture festival taking place from August 16th– 24th, 2019. Last evening all roads led to the Grand Market at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain to commence the highly anticipated festivities.
Caribbean Entertainment Hub was there first hand to bring you some exciting coverage of the evening’s proceedings. Here’s a look of some of the participating countries on display during the ‘Parade of Nations’ ceremony.
The evening had nothing short of spectacular performances and musical showmanship. From tributes to Calypso Royalty, the Late Great Lord Kitchener & the Mighty Shadow by none other than their lineage Kernal Roberts and Sharlan Bailey performing on stage together. Followed by a musical melody featuring Carifesta Brand Ambassadors Nailah Blackman & Neval Chatelal alongside Olatunji Yearwood and much more.
As the festivities continued, the beautiful Denyse Plummer sang her popular calypso hit ‘Nah Leaving’, followed by Calypso Icon David Rudder alongside Carl Jacobs giving a thrilling performance of the Trini anthem ‘Trini 2 D Bone’.
Also gracing the stage were some of the Caribbean’s favorite Soca & Chutney stars keeping the crowd fully entertained and on their feet. Two-times Chutney Soca Monarch winner and CARIFESTA XIV brand ambassador Nishard M performed his hit single ‘Fyah’ and later introduced the Queen of Bacchanal, Destra Garcia who performed a medley of some of her popular classics.
Overall the night was filled with high energy and patriotic unity as the splendor of the region’s culture was on display. As this cultural extravaganza continues, we at Caribbean Entertainment Hub will be bringing you front row coverage so keep checking our platforms for regular updates.
