With emotions still high and cricket lovers reminiscing about the epic season just witnessed, many may have been too caught up during the matches to notice some of the other benefits that the biggest party in sports brings each year. CPL is now the number one sporting event in the Caribbean with games being played each year in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Kitts and Nevis. Besides reviving the once declining interest in cricket in the region, it brings a much needed economic boost to these countries, especially the country hosting the final match.

CPL Cricket Lovers supporting their teams
CPL 2019 finals, played on Saturday 12th October at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago, turned out to be a thriller with fans turning out in their numbers to witness the spectacular showdown between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Tridents. Following this year’s historic season of the CPL matches, the divide across people in the region was clear with many deciding who they would be backing after their original teams were eliminated. It seemed like the overall support was split 50/50 as the Barbados vs. Guyana rivalry took place.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Tridents scored a total of 171/ 6 in 20 overs. Many thought that this, while a formidable total, was insufficient for the mighty warriors to make. But as fate would have it, the Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to only score 144/9 in 20 overs. What a heart-breaking loss for Guyana, as the Warriors suffered their first lost for the entire season and their fifth loss in a CPL finals. The Tridents winning the finals by 27 runs, earned their 2nd CPL title since 2015. Supporters cheered on as Jonathan Carter was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ title and Hayden Walsh was declared the ‘Man of the Tournament’.
According to the official CPLT20 site, after conducting an Economic Impact Assessment (EIA), it was determined that there has been a continual major financial boost for the region during the CPL tournaments from Investors, Tourism, Hotel & Travel accommodations, Media value during TV and Digital media broadcasts, Fan attendance and also the staggering rise in job creations in recent years. Not to mention the overall unification and incomparable excitement from cricket supporters throughout the region, who continue to show the cricket world with each match played why it is called the biggest party in sports.
Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to congratulate the Barbados Tridents for taking home the HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 title.
