And then there were two!
We don’t know about you, but we’re still recovering from the Caribbean Premier League 2019 Playoffs. This week was filled with nerve-wracking anticipation that came to a bitter-sweet end, sealing the faith of two teams that would be facing off in this year’s CPL finals.
It was no surprise to cricket fans when the Guyana Amazon Warriors became the first to secure their spot in the finals. After remarkably securing a 10 match winning streak this year, which is rare for a T20 franchise league, they left cricket supporters wondering which team will showdown in the finals.

Guyana Amazon Warriors
This week’s playoffs commenced on Sunday 6th October, 2019 at 11am at the Providence Stadium, Guyana with the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots competing against the defending champions, the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). The Patriots fans were left heartbroken as the Knight Riders eliminated their chances of a spot in the finals after winning by 6 wickets, scoring a total of 128/4 in 18.4 overs while the Patriots scored 125/7 in 20 overs. This win also restored faith for the TKR supporters since they have been on a losing streak for some time now.
With the decision now down to the defending champions, the Trinbago Knight Riders and the Barbados Tridents. The first Qualifier, having took place the same day and location was played at 3.30pm and gave the Guyana Amazon Warriors yet another win as the competed against the Barbados Tridents. Winning by 30 runs and scoring a total of 218/ 7 in 20 overs, the Amazon Warriors continued their dominance throughout the playoffs, while the Tridents putting up a good fight scored a total of 188/8 in 20 overs.
The 2nd Qualifier however, left the CPL planet speechless with an unexpected turn of events as the defending champions was unable to secure their spot in the finals, ending their hopes of winning their 4th consecutive title. Disappointed TKR supporters left the Brian Lara Stadium on Thursday 10th October, 2019 after the Barbados Tridents reigned victorious over the Riders, eliminating them from the finals and securing their spot to compete against the Amazon Warriors.
The Riders won the toss and elected to field while the Tridents scored a total of 160/6 in 20 overs. Consumed with ambivalence, patrons cheering the Riders onto victory were disappointed in the end when they lost scoring a total of 148 in 19.3 overs. This gave the Tridents their entry to the finals, which will be their first since 2015.
With emotions and predictions now being reconsidered, in a little over 24 hours at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy the 2019 Caribbean Premiere League winner will be decided. The final match will be played on Saturday 12th October, 2019 and kicks off at 5pm. Do you think that the most consistent team thus far, the Guyana Amazon Warriors will be able to secure their first title after finishing runners up in four previous finals? Or do you think the Barbados Tridents stand a chance at securing their second title? Who will you be supporting? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for our CPL Finals coverage.
