Gospel Artiste, Samuel Medas Ready To Defend His Guyanese Soca Monarch Title

Written by: David Lawrence

In an interview with HGPTV, last year’s Guyanese soca Monarch winner, Samuel Medas promised to deliver good vibes and a positive message with his song ‘People’ when he steps into the virtual competition which is scheduled for Saturday, February 19th.2022

Amid lingering criticism from some sections of the Christian community about his participation in the secular competition, Medas a devout Christian and gospel artiste who last year surprised many, not only by entering the competition but by emerging victorious with his song ‘Stadium’, had this to say:

“I think a lot of people are more relaxed this year about me going back into the soca monarch and I actually expecting it because of the different flavor that I bring to soca monarch. But even if I’m met with any kind of backlash, I have matured so much from last year, because last year was the first for me. But there’s no way I’m answering people on social media if they have anything to say. I am just going and do meh thing.”

His new song ‘people’ with which he intends to recapture the crown, is described herein his own words:

“It is a different vibe, it’s not anything close to ‘Stadium’. It’s not jump up on a fence or on a roof. The name of the song is “People’.  it’s really about, .. it talks about second chances and us being for people. We live in a world where canceled culture is the thing these days. Somebody crossed you, I done with you, you dead to me. But at the end of the day, people is all we have. Whether it be friends, whether it be family people desire second chances.”

Medas believes is that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports can improve the quality of the competition by raising the bar with the reward offerings.

“If you throw an incentive of you get a piece of land or you get a house for young professionals you will see that they will have such a hard time picking the top 10 entries, the top 10 finalists for Soca Monarch because everybody will realize that we gotta up we game because the stakes are higher.”
