Guyana’s Monarch competitions are nothing if not a promise of theatric gold. The depth of talent that will be on show in both the Junior and senior Monarch categories means that the fans are going to be the biggest winners overall. And as the contestants each release their competition songs one after the another, Guyana’s airwaves are hot for monarch season is here.
Returning soca monarch Champ, Samuel Medas has officially begun his quest to defend his monarchy with a Good Samaritan-themed smash entitled ‘people’. He will however have to fend off a cavalry including early front runners such as the ever-consistent Vanilla Roberts, multiple monarch winner Brandon Harding, and Granny Ivelaw who though a relatively new face to the monarch competition is no stranger to Guyana’s entertainment landscape. Also amongst the favorites to win are Newcomer Jada with ‘Voodoo whine’, and Lady Nekeita with a groovy hit entitled ‘Right Hay’ featuring her silky-smooth vocal styling. Multiple monarch winner Jumo Primo, who continues to silence agist criticism is also making another bid for the coveted crown.
The calypso and chutney categories are also shaping to be some epic battles. Both are characterized by a valiant mix of veterans and newcomers. In the chutney monarch, veteran Bunty Singh has said that he is on a mission to make 2022 his year and has been receiving much fanfare for his entry while New Comer Nawaz Singh told CEH He is ready to take it all away. The Calypso Monarch will also be grand as many major contenders have already announced their participation.
As regards the junior Category, OKC hot on the heels of his historic win in both the calypso and soca monarchs has revealed that he will be defending both his titles and is also making his debut in the chutney arena. He will however have his hands full fending off the talented onslaught of musicians aimed at dethroning him.
Competitors in each category will need to bring their A-Game to have their names documented in history. At this junction, the competitions are too close to call and We at CEH anticipate mesmerizing nights of grueling competition. We would like to wish all the contenders in each category the best of luck as we encourage you our faithful readers to tune into these competitions and enjoy the promised theatric golds.
Here are some of the favorites that are heating up Guyana’s airways right now.
