Sekon Sunday 2020: The Golden Fetecert

The Best of Carnival at the beginning of Carnival!

Sekon Sta delivers another spectacular concert event and the streets can’t stop talking. In just two years, Sekon Sta has solidify his place in the Trinidad Carnival Feting Circuit with the overwhelming success of his 2020 Sekon Sunday event. The Fetecert (Fete Concert), an original concept coined by Sekon Sta and his EEEmpire team, is all about the energy of a fete combined with the details of a concert.

With a change in location this year after a sold out show last year, on January 12th, Fatima College Grounds, Port of Spain (his alma mater) welcomed the second edition of Sekon Sunday. With a strict dress code in effect, patrons came out in their classy white and gold fashion ready to party with their favorite soca stars.

Sekon Sta performed many of his soca hits, old and new, as the crowd sang and cheered on. His line up included crowd favourites like ‘Kings & Queens’, ‘The Best’, ‘I Swear’; and his 2020 releases like ‘Waste Man’, ‘Who Pay’, ‘To the Max’ and more. With CEH front and centre to capture it all, here are some of the highlights of the night.

One of the most talked about performances belonged to the Sekon Sta performing alongside Bunji Garlin  performing his new release ‘The Struggle’, which samples Sekon Sta’s father, the late great Merchant’s ‘Um Ba Ya Oh’. The crowd later went into an uproar when the Viqueen, Fay Ann Lyons joined Bunji on stage for an energetic performance which later ended with Fay diving off the stage while performing her 2020 soca release ‘Dive’.

Another highlight of the night came from the Brave squad. Erphaan Alves graced the stage performing a few of his well-known hits like ‘Overdue’ and his new release ‘Pick A Side’ alongside Sekon Sta that sent the crowd into a frenzy. They both we later joined by Nailah Blackman who performed earlier, to deliver their hit soca anthem ‘Brave’.

Patrons also got a major surprise when Sekon Sta invited two Extempo Veterans & Monarch Kings, Gypsy & Lingo on stage for an exciting Extempo performance. He later invited living soca legend, the one and only Baron to perform his soca hit ‘Feeling It’.

Other amazing performances of the night included Voice, Lyrikal, Shal Marshall, Preedy, V’ghn, Kes, Iwer George and many more. You can check out more from our coverage on our You Tube Channel- https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJLwBFvC3-6U27cC8INMLUv9Ls3daHvI_

From the layout of the venue, to the smooth running of the show, the amazing artistes cast and so many surprises throughout the night; it’s no wonder why many are labeling this event as one of the best for the season thus far. Some even went as far to say that it has the potential to be as big as Machel Monday.

Sekon Sta later took to his social media to thank everyone for their support saying:

‘Manifestation into actualisation. So much went into the creation of this event.

So much!! So much!! So many people worked feverishly to make this dream come true.
Many nights I didn’t know how I was going to actually do it but I put it in the Lord’s hands and safe to say he never fail me yet.
Thanks to all the sponsors/ artist / DJs/ suppliers for making Sekon Sunday come true.
I want to thank all my supporters and my friends for being so vocal and urging people to come and trust the vision we had.

We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to say a special congratulations to Sekon Sta and the EEEmpire team for delivering yet another spectacular event.
