Once ah Trini reach in yuh Fete is Niceness…
The last fete for 2019 and the first fete to officially kick off the 2020 Carnival season. On Friday 27th December, the Jean Pierre Stadium came alive as it was transformed into a feting paradise. Three-time soca monarch winner Voice held his 4th annual concert and birthday celebration event ‘CAVANAL’ and CEH was there to capture it all.
Themed the ‘Realm of Unity’, this year’s event had an interesting marketing twist as everything was kept a surprise. No names of the top artistes and DJ cast were revealed to the public, however patrons knew that they would be in for a treat. The event was hosted by popular Radio and Television personality Sunny Bling, who kept the crowd well entertained and laughing throughout the night.
Patrons were seen singing and dancing throughout the night as the surprise guest artistes began to grace the stage. The action packed night featured top soca stars like Iwer George, Nailah Blackman, Sekon Sta, Farmer Nappy, Teddyson John, Ricardo Drue, Patrice Roberts and many more.
The night however, belonged to Voice who delivered yet another epic concert and show-stopping performance filled with love, unity and pure feting vibes. He kicked off the night with, what is now being called, the Trini Soca Anthem for 2020: ‘Dear Promoter’, which definitely put patrons in that carnival mood. Throughout the night he also performed many of his soca hits like Cheers to Life’, ‘Far from Finished’, ‘Year for Love’ as the crowd sang along line by line.
As the night progressed, the crowd went into an uproar chanting ‘Nadie, Nadie’ as Voice introduced the sassy soca diva, Nadia Batson, to the stage. They performed their 2020 soca collab ‘One Mission’. Nadia then took us back to Carnival 2019 performing ‘So Long’, before diving into her 2020 female soca anthem ‘Fatt’.
Representing for Grenada on the Cavanal stage was Grenadian Soca artiste duo Lil Natty & Thunda who surprised fans when they performed ‘Pandemonium’ alongside Voice in an energetic performance that left patrons surely out of breath.
But the performance of the night that stole the show according to most who attended was Kes performing alongside Voice, delivering their first live performance of their soca anthem ‘Dear Promoter’. Definitely, putting patrons in a patriotic and feting mood (see video at the top of the article). This was truly the perfect start to Carnival 2020.
Voice later took to his social media to thank everyone for their support, as he wrote:
‘I just want to take this time to say thanks, not just for supporting Cavanal, but for allowing me to do this show every year for MY people. This show gives me the chance to give all of me to all of you, and to have you receive me the way you did was overwhelming. Cavanal 2019 was an amazing’.
We at CEH would like to wish Voice a heartfelt Happy Birthday and say a special thank you to Voice, Lyndon Gomez and his Management team for putting on an amazing event.
