Sekon Sta Owns Sekon Sunday

Written by: Nekisha Cyrus

Sekon Sta, the son of the late great Merchant, held his first solo concert to a sold-out crowd on Sunday 13th January, 2019 at the Crews Inn Hotel in Chaguaramas, Trinidad.

Sekon had the crowd singing almost every word as he performed a variety of his hits including ‘Aye Yo’, ‘Maximum’, ‘The Best’, ‘Kings and Queens’ and ‘I Swear’. He also paid homage to his father, singing some of his songs like ‘Caribbean Connection’ and ‘Um Ba Ya Oh’. He then sent the crowd into a frenzy when he invited soca icon Super Blue to join him on stage as he sang his 2019 release ‘Rag Storm’.

Patrons were also treated to live performances from many of his soca family and friends including: Nadia Batson, Farmer Nappy, Patrice Roberts, Voice, Nailah Blackman and many more. Even Jamaican Dancehall artiste Serani made a surprise guest performance and hinted that they are currently working on a song together.

The audience was spectacularly dressed in evening wear; honouring the stipulated dress code which made it the first classy carnival event for the season.

With the huge success of this his first concert ‘Sekon Sunday’ which he labels as a Fetecert (Fete Concert), Sekon Sta thanked the crowd for their overwhelming support as he claimed that he was not expecting it. We can only expect next year’s event to be bigger and better with an expected change in the venue, as the crowd was so huge this year the police had to stop patrons from entering the event for safety measures.

A Special Thank You to Sekon Sta and the management and staff at EEEmpire.
