The Jamaican ‘Trending Gyal’, Shenseea, is once more the talk of the town since dropping her latest single, Lick. Quite the provocative number, it was done in collaboration with American rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, and upon its release, in under 24 hours, checked over 1 million views on YouTube!
Shenseea, under the fairly new management of Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby (July, 2021), announced that this year on March 11th, ShenYengz worldwide can get their years-in-waiting hands on ‘Alpha’, her debut album! According to a press release from her camp, Lick, is an official single off of the pending-for-release body of work.

Since being managed by Sal, Shenseea has gained a bigger presence in international musical spaces. With the Lebanese-Canadian music industry executive, Shenseea now shares a manager with Doja Cat and The Weeknd, and her music career has skyrocketed ever since.
She was selected by Kanye West for two tracks off of his 2021 album, Donda. Shenseea’s vocals can be heard on the tracks Pure Souls and Ok Ok Pt 2 of the Grammy-nominated album which featured huge names including Chris Brown, Kid Cudi, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd. Recently she was spotted at the Diddy-founded ‘The Crew League’ with some famous names. While she was there, rappers YK Osiris, Toosii and NLE Choppa’s crew went up against Chris Brown’s for $100k.
Shenseea, days after announcing Sal as her new manager, graced popular New York radio station, Hot 97, and delivered a freestyle which now sits comfortably north of 1 million views on YouTube. Then came Rolling Loud, her first-ever US festival where she entered the stage in a jerk chicken grill for her performance in Miami.
Last year, she gave us the first single, Run Run, which now sits at 7.1 million views and has been described as giving off an 80s/90s dancehall-roots vibes. We now know this was the first single released from her debut album to be called ‘Alpha’. With the continuous release of new music under Slaiby’s management, including Be Good, and You’re The One I Love, Shenseea is reaching her goal of international stardom. All these tracks are mastered to high audio quality and their corresponding videos are of cinematic productions. This high standard of professionalism is now becoming a constant with her brand.

Shenseea
In the collaborated single, Lick, Shenseea sang: “Put yuh back in it, put yuh back in it, put yuh back in it, just a little more” and immediately threw a large number of folks in a frenzy as just last year, this sample was trending all over social media! The instantly recognized snippet of Pupa Nas T and Denise Belfon’s ‘Work’, reimagined by Shenseea and Canadian producer, Murda Beatz, was immediately thought to have been stolen from Saucy Wow and Nas T. Immediately, this sparked outrage from the Caribbean, particularly, the soca-loving section. It’s since been cleared that everything’s a-okay between Shenseea and Denise as the Trinidadian gem of an artiste was seen with Shenseea at a party celebrating the much talked about Lick, both heartily singing the sample!
As for the public receiving the song with open arms, there seems to be little room for such. A vocal portion of folks who looked at the video had throngs of things to say, the least insulting of the lot ruled the song a whopping “disappointment”. On the other hand, it was praised by internationally popular and head-turning publications: FADER, VIBE and Hypebeast.
Shenseea, with her album ‘Alpha’ releasing on March 11th, we at Caribbean Entertainment Hub can’t help but wonder what she’ll possibly drop between now and then. Of course, if you are too, then definitely stay tuned to this space.
