Yet another powerhouse vocalist is waving the regional flag high on the world music stage. Trinidadian 27 year- old neo-soul artiste, Payge Turner, was among the performers who struck the right chord with the judges when the Blind Auditions of The Voice 2020 commenced this week.
The songstress, exuding sheer confidence, is following in the footsteps of Barbadian Wesu Wallace, who wowed the judges in the UK-based version of the competition in 2018. In her second time auditioning for the NBC hit show, the multitalented performer hit all the right notes gaining a two-chair turn by judges Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
Turner’s sultry interpretation of the Weekend’s Call Out My Name was captivating from the opening note. Looking totally at ease, she revelled in each moment. The quality of her voice was undeniable when she showcased her range hitting her lower register and piquing the curiosity of the panel of judges. While Shelton lobbied hard to have the sensational singer join his team, she opted instead to take the latest steps in her musical journey with the former No Doubt lead singer, Stefani. By adding this singer/songwriter to her team, Stefani has gained not only a phenomenal singer, but also a skilled musician capable of playing five instruments.
Musicianship runs through Payge’s bloodline, and the artiste has the full support of her family who were on set to lend moral support. Since migrating to the United States at the age of 13, creating music has always been among her passions. Despite not being keen on the more structured music lessons in her youth, she came full circle studying the art form at college.
Ultimately, Payge Turner wants to create music that ensures that her voice is heard clearly as she wants to be a source of inspiration. The Voice platform provides her with the forum to do just that as fans eagerly await her next appearance.
