Gtt Guyana plus Star Singing Competition Quarter Final

Written by: Jamel Grahame

The Gtt Guyana plus Star Singing Competition hosted the Quarter Final round on Sunday 9 June 2019.  It was an epic evening of talent at Movie Town Theatres, as the top 25 contestants battled for a position in the coveted top 15 semi- finals. The emotions were raw in an evening where contestants spared no effort to impress the judges and audience alike. The epic battle treated us to everything from original songs, seductive dancing, and the presentation of roses to the judges and special audience members. There was even a brief bit of nudity courtesy of the Young Linder Trevor Thomas who took his shirt off in an desperate plea for a spot in the semi-final.

Many contestants rose to the occasion and wowed the judges and audience alike with creative and spectacular performances. However not all the contestants feared well, for the Quarter finals saw many contestants including early Front runner MS. Kimberly Samuels failing to make the mark with her opera infused cover of Siah’s Iconic hit “Chandelier.” Song choice seemed to be the biggest hurdle for this talented group as the judges stressed several times the importance of choosing the right song to showcase all the best qualities of their voices.

Variety is the Spice of life and the GTT plus star Singing competition produced one of the widest varieties of musical performances. Though the entire programme could be deemed a theatrical spectacle, there were defining moments throughout the show.  Standouts included: Ganesh Singh who amazed the judges with a touching emotional performance to an indy classic, while visually impaired Relon Sumner delivered an absolutely electrifying and crowd-pleasing performance of an original song that brought the audience to their feet. Dubbed queen of consistency, Josephine Mitchel treated the audience to an acclaimed pop sounding cover of “the Power of love” by Celine Dion that left the judges raving about her controlled vocals. The evening however belonged to Ms. Delicia Wright; Whose stunning cover of Rihanna’s epic ballad “love on the brain” earned the only standing ovation of the even and some unsolicited hugs and other such endorsement from the stunned judges.

The entire production was well received and continues to be a major conversation on social media here in Guyana. The public are now critically involved in the programme as their votes account for some of the contestants overall scores and by extension determining who qualifies for the next round of the competition.

The names of the contestants that made the cut for the upcoming Semi-finals was announced Friday 14th June 2019 and sent shock waves through social media as many early favorites were noticeably absent from the list of semi- finalists. (see the complete list of the top 15 Semi Finalists on the GTT singing competition.) Caribbean Entertainment Hub wishes to commend all the contestants in the competition and offer our best wishes to the 15 contestants that qualified to be a part of the semi-finals slated for June 16 2019.
