Grenada’s Thamara ‘Songbird’ St. Bernard Receiving International Airplay

Written by: Lesandra Scott

Artiste Thamara ‘Songbird’ St. Bernard and Producer, Eugene Gittens, are illuminating Grenada’s position on “the map”. The duo’s song, “I’ve Got You” sang by Thamara and produced by Eugene on the ‘Proper Ting’ riddim, has been played on popular UK radio show, BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Being one of the UK’s top premiere shows, BBC Radio 1Xtra has fanned the flame of popularity for artistes such as Buju Banton, Lila Ike, Sean Paul, Shenseea, Wayne Wonder, Frisco Kid, Jah9, Aidonia, Koffee, and many more.  “I’ve Got You”, having gotten airplay on 1Xtra, has afforded Thamara and Grenada’s musical talent on a whole, much needed international recognition.

Thamara, who recently released the visuals for her single “Jah Battle”, a supportive piece that speaks on living with Depression, is no stranger to an international crowd. In 2018 she performed at the ‘Grenada Music Festival’ and before the Coronavirus pandemic, she was again scheduled to perform at this year’s festival. “I’ve Got You”, draws inspiration from and is an absolute reflection of her current relationship.

Eugene Gittens has had his hand in the musical pot for a considerable number of years.  So much so, that he’s even put on shows geared towards showcasing Grenadian talent. Recently, his trip down that path has led him to put together ‘Digicel Grenada Top Talent’.
