One of reggae’s greatest crooners, Tarrus Riley, has done it again! This time, he’s dropped a roots reggae-heavy single “Love Salute”. In this bass-friendly single, Tarrus Riley speaks of not taking anyone for granted and encourages folks to deliberately show love to each other. According to Tarrus: “Don’t wait until it’s too late to show the people who you love, that you love them. Salute the ones you love; simple, Love Salute”.
The ability to not limit himself to one sound is one of the things that makes Tarrus Riley so well received. Past singles he has given his fans include the lady appreciation tune She’s Royal, then Lion Paw which favors African drumming, a soft rock single Jah Will, a cover of Michael Jackson’s Human Nature, and of course, the EDM favorite, Powerful, done with Ellie Goulding and Major Lazer which has amassed over 132 million views. From Lighters done with Shenseea to this single, Love Salute, he’s once again showing that he will never be placed in a single box where his vocals are concerned. He constantly flexes the ability to effortlessly switch up his style yet keep that groovy Tarrus-vibe that we’ve come to expect.
“So if you find someone that you can’t lose
Please surrender and Love Salute”
This ode to appreciating that thing called love was produced by the son of the original song’s producer. Years later, Kareem ‘Remus’ Burrell, mirroring his father’s producing fingertips, brought back to life Marcia Griffith’s Hold On, and together, he and Tarrus Riley birthed Love Salute. The Walu directed visuals reflected his message with both actors expressing the feeling in their own way. This single was inspired by the passing of his younger sister, in Riley’s words: “love is an actionable word that we can put into action so let’s do that”.
