Winter in the Caribbean

Winter in the Caribbean

‘What really be going on in the Caribbean bro?’

‘Is like we did a place swap and now there’s only snow’

Said the watching ones.

But what really wrong?

Our hearts ice over and now no man no partial

Everybody! Dey shoot up the infant, the doctor, and the marshal

‘Gun violence has seemed to take a turn for the worse in the sunny island,

Two men were shot this afternoon in cold blood’ said the reporting ones

Iced over eyes in soulless bodies

He toke the gun and pull the trigger

And now he’s with us no longer

Minds frost bitten, too numb to think and realize

That you are no less than your brother cause you didn’t win the prize,

Mind so numb all it can do is wish bad.

What happened to the village raise a child

When my success was your success, my child your child?

Lips cracked and bleeding, from ice-picked lies,

Half-hearted stories, and alibis

Too cracked to see that with every word of slander

When you cut me you cut yourself

We too blinded by the snow man

‘Make we go back to the sunshine nah?’

Said the hopeful ones

I think they mean to beaches, coconut trees, and leaves

‘Make we go back to the sunshine’ they sang again

Back to when the music was nice and everyone had love in their eyes

Grooving, moving to one beat – the Caribbean beat

Dancing in joy as they skank their feet

And rock their bodies, soaking up the heat

Catching a vibes to the good whole harmony

Back to the warmth of real bredda love,

Of love that was there in drought

There in much

When you help me help you help we

Build you build me build we

‘Make we go back to the sunshine nah?’

Hope you enjoyed the poem!

Keep peace, love, and laughter in you’ heart and walk good.
