Annalie Prime is introducing the world to a new age sound of soulful calypso and Reggae fused with folk music.
She is a young singer, songwriter, artiste, musician, and producer who hails from the beautiful twin island of Trinidad and Tobago. At just 26 years old, her musical landscape has already far exceeded her age. Her unique and soulful voice, passionate and thought-provoking lyrics, harmonic and stimulating melodies; all fuse perfectly together as evident in her impressive musical catalogue and brand new album ‘I Think Too Much’ officially out now. Yes, Annalie Prime is ready to take the world by storm.
So how exactly did this musical journey begin for soulful songstress?
Annalie grew up in a quiet village, called Chase Village, Central Trinidad. According to the singer, she considers her childhood to be relatively quiet as she recalls mostly keeping to herself as a child. When asked about how it all started for her, she dates the beginning of her musical career around the tender age of four when she auditioned for a singing role in her church’s Christmas concert. Growing up in a Christian household, the church is where she credits the beginning of her love for music.
When it comes to the moment that she knew she wanted to sing, surprisingly she says that it was around the time when T&T’s Wendy Fitzwilliam won the ‘Miss Universe’ title in 1998 and seeing KC and Jojo performing ‘All My Life’. In her later years, as her music palette continued to evolve, she was introduced to the influential sounds of some of her musical faves, such as Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Queen the Band, and even our very own homegrown icons like David Rudder and Ella Andall. She also expressed that she would love to work with Jamaica Reggae artiste, Chronixx one day. Wouldn’t this be an amazing collaboration?
In 2013, Annalie began her professional singing career, releasing her very first single ‘Guns of Hysteria’. Partnering with Tommy Boy Entertainment (an American independent record label and multimedia brand), the single received great success and was even featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, the USA Viral 50 charts, in addition to a few international blogging websites.
And her second single, released this month, ‘So Tired’ has more of a laid-back and soothing Neo-soul vibe to it. Check it out below and let us know if you are feeling them both!
Outside of music, Annalie is also a published author. Yes, her first book ‘Periwinkled Paradise’ is also available on Amazon. Written specifically to shine a light on mental health in the Caribbean and communities where it is undervalued; ‘Periwinkled Paradise’ focuses on the mental interior of Jasmine and how her past, spirituality, family traditions and culture all affect it. Set mostly in a little village called Gaston, the novel takes you on a ride throughout Trinidad and Tobago, showcasing the traditions and culture of the land.
