After grabbing the attention of the music world by going viral on TikTok with his #StadicFreestlyeChallenge, Stadic, the Trini-born, St. Vincent & Grenadines-raised producer is becoming a growing household name among Caribbean music enthusiasts!

Born Kevin Charles, Stadic’s involvement in music spans eight years. According to him, gravitating towards becoming a producer came out of sheer necessity. As a teacher fresh out of college, in his search for dance music instrumentals, he often came up short. To fill this need, Stadic created the sounds he was looking for. Then, Gary “Icon” John, upon hearing his music, asked if he’d ever considered producing for other people. With that question, Stadic’s interest sparked. While growing up in Union Island, to be noted is that he and Don Tittle opened the island’s first recording studio. Stadic prides himself on breaking rules, experimenting and not subscribing to the norm, though it makes you think: What makes Stadic, Stadic? Let’s get into it. 

In the years that followed, Stadic became heavily affiliated with different musical tastes. He and long-time collaborator Jonny Blaze have produced many riddims which mainstream artistes have hopped on. They’ve produced riddims spanning the genres of soca and dancehall including the Hustlers Riddim (Chris Martin, Mavado, Konshens, Preedy) and 2021’s Candy Shack Riddim (Patrice Roberts, Kerwin Du Bois, Destra, Nailah Blackman, Teejay). Other artistes he has also worked with include Bunji Garlin, GBM Neutron, Ishawna,  Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Fay-Ann Lyons, Reekado Banks, Mr. Killa, to name a few.

Stadic has also collaborated with other producers like Wetty Beatz who he shares a close, business and personal bond (“I’ve always considered Wetty Beatz my little brother”); Captain John, and Grenada’s Adigun who he has worked with for years, (“I’ve done quite a few projects with Adigun, big up to Adigun from Grenada”),.

The riddim birthed from Stadic’s viral challenge is the ‘Freestyle Riddim’. About it, Stadic said “our approach is really like those old school Dancehall riddims. You know those riddims, they had a million people on them, so we’re essentially using the same approach. We’re not exactly limiting the amount of songs placed on there.” It includes artistes such as Ding Dong, Collie Buddz, Stefflon Don, Stylo G, Chi Ching Ching, R City, Spice, Safaree and Bunji Garlin. Stadic’s goal in the musical arena is “to bridge the gap between the cultures of the people regionally and the people internationally, and just try to make the entire music space significantly smaller.”

Since going viral, Stadic’s challenge has showcased on some major platforms. These include The Shade Room, BET Music, Hollywood Unlocked, BBC 1xtra, and America’s Hot 97. Future-wise, he’s currently working on his album with a single to be released at the beginning of next month. This will be a collaboration with the Freetown Collective; already loved by the Turn Up producer. The upcoming album will feature many regional and international artistes including Afro B, Patrice Roberts, and Lord Afrixana (featured on Beyonce’s ‘The Gift’ album). Stadic has also hinted about a TV show in the works with a major international network.
