Toots & the Maytals Wins 2021 Grammy’s Best Reggae Album.

“Got To Be Tough” by Toots and The Maytals was awarded as the winner of the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

“Got To Be Tough” was one of five albums that were nominated for the category at the 63rd Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. To take the win, Toots & the Maytals came out on top above reggae contenders Buju Blanton, Skip Marley, Maxi Priest, and The Wailers.

Jackie Jackson, the group’s bass guitarist responded to the win saying: “This is a great honour for the legend [Toots] and so well deserved.No words can express how we guys are feeling right now.” The Grammy awarded “Got To Be Tough”, was the first album to be released by the band in over a decade, features 10 tracks, including a collaboration with Ziggy Marley.

The Album which was released in August 2020, just days before the death of the reggae icon, Federick Nathaniel “toots” Hibberts, is the second Grammy win for Toot and the Maytals, who took home the title in 2005 for the album “True Love.”

The legendary frontman for the band Toots Hibberts passed away at age 77 due to complications with coronavirus. The band which has been around since the 1960s is considered pioneers in the reggae industry.
