Humor is a powerful element used in many Guyanese music visuals. Besides the use of sexuality, these songs and music videos make humor an integral part of delivering cultural, social messages or simply providing a healthy dose of laughter for adoring fans. If you too are a fan of some good old-fashioned artistic humor, be sure to check ‘dem’ Guyanese videos out; you are sure to have a belly-full or a chuckle.
Musicians such as Kwasi Ace and Jumo Primo have all utilized the power of laughter in the past to push their music. Kwasi Ace made us laugh at ourselves with his guilty pleasure ‘Stupid Questions’ while Jumo had us on the floor with ‘Nosey People’. Bunty Singh also gave us a lot to laugh at with the video for ‘She Want Me To Be She Raja’ featuring a cross-dressing antagonist making all attempts to get his attention.
Following in the same vein newer artists such as Desi brought us the public servant’s anthem ‘Payday’ where no topic was off-limits, not even the religious concept of tiding. Other cases of Certified comedic gold came in the form of Kurt Lee’s burial ground party for ‘Wen A Dead’ featuring dancing pallbearers and a split across the artiste’s tomb. Also, Lill Million’s ageist classic ‘Big aunty’ featuring Oscar-worthy performances from Comedians Granny Ivelaw and Kunchi Reynolds.
We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub have only compiled a shortlist of our favorites for your viewing pleasure. So stay tuned to CEH for more on the music industry as we continue to track the growing trends in the Arts and Entertainment industry in Guyana.
