Love, Passion and Music can be used to describe the St. Lucian musical powerhouse known as Teddyson John. Well known by many as ‘Teddy’ or ‘TJ’, he is an award-winning vocalist, a multi-talented musician, a natural-born entertainer and a Groovy soca monarch winner amongst many other titles that makes us wonder how can someone be so extraordinary and yet remain so humble.
We at CEH caught up with Teddyson recently during his very busy schedule for a brief interview and here’s what he had to share with us about his introduction to the land of music.
Hailing from St. Lucia’s capital, Castries and coming from a spiritual home, Teddyson realized his love for music at a tend age. He was six years old to be exact and singing in the junior choirs in church and in kid’s plays, which later led to his first ever recording; a gospel song titled ‘Sweeter’. With a serious love for Gospel, R&B and Jazz music, which to this day continues to influence his sound, Teddy decided in 2007 to step into the soca arena and won the first ever St. Lucia Groovy Soca Monarch title with his song ‘Coming Down de Road’.
Today he is considered one of the most consistent and versatile soca artiste, delivering hit after hit over the years and also becoming a household name after the release of his 2015 hit single ‘Allez’, which took over the carnival circuit and still to this day is a well-known crowd favorite. The success of the single also made him the first St. Lucian Soca artiste to achieve 1 million views on You Tube; introducing him to the mecca of soca music, Trinidad and Tobago and the international soca stage.
So what is it about his music that connects with music lovers so deeply? Some say it’s his overall ‘charm and charisma’, others say it’s his ‘feel good music’ with a positive message that you can always relate to, some even commended his inclusion of ‘French creole or Patwa’ phrases that is native to his country? We believe that they all have played a crucial role in developing his signature musical style that we all love.
Additionally, here are a few facts about him that you may not have known:

He also shared that having access and ability to get people, whether its studio-writers, producers; people still think of it as being seasonal compared to doing it full time.
Today, as Teddyson continues to solidify his place in the soca arena, he has already earned the well-deserved respect from many of his peers and fans. When asked about the biggest lesson he has learnt, he said to stop doubting his abilities and ideas, because so far the songs that have had the biggest impact came from his heart.
