Although it seems like Vybz Kartel is not coming out of prison any time soon, the legacy of his music certainly lives on through the prison bars and in his sons.
Vybz Kartel’s sons Jaheim, also known as ‘Likkle Vybz’, and Raheim also known as ‘Likkle Addi’, with his assistance together with that of their devoted mother, have formed a group ‘PG-13’ and are making waves in the local music industry. One of their early hits, ‘Gimme Di Money’, was produced by Short Boss Musik, in 2014, on the imprint label of Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson, Vybz Kartel’s common law wife and mother to the boys. The release said the single is a remake of the late Risto Benji’s King Jammys produced hit.
On listening to their 2019 releases, one can detect a maturity of sound and that the sons of Vybz Kartel are on to something. Their hits for this year so far are: ‘Fully Gaza’, ‘Dollar Sign’ and their brand new single “Skinny Jeans,” which is featured on their father’s Vybz Kartel Music label and distributed by Johnny Wonder.
Both ‘Likkle Vybz’ and ‘Likkle Addi’ attend a prominent high school and is seemingly doing well. In a recent interview they stated that being the sons of Vybz Kartel, it was easy for them to maneuver school and they’re thankful for the support from fans.
Vybz Kartel is to serve 35 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole. As the boys continue to do well in school while making music, we see nothing but good vibes for the musical legacy of Vybz Kartel.
