Soca For Her 2023: A Night Of Beautiful Collaborations

Written by: Nekisha Cyrus

The Grand Stand of the Queens Park Savannah came alive last Friday night, 3rd February, with the 2nd edition of “Soca For Her”. The success of this event is sure to cement its place in Trinidad’s carnival feting circuit in the future.

Dressed up in their latest outfits, pretty and ready to party, women outnumbered men by plenty. Indeed it was a night of “Soca For Her” as the women didn’t come there to just stand up; they came to hard fete.

Back by the A-Team Band, several of today’s soca biggest artistes attempted to ‘shell’ the place. Many came close but the structure of the Grand Stand was able to withstand the jumping of many sturdy feet. Patrice Roberts, Nailah Blackman, Nadia Batson, and Kerlz were the female acts in the lineup, with Farmer Nappy, Christopher Martin, Lyrikal, Problem Child, Skinny Fabulous, Adam-O, Motto, Erphaan Alves the males. Voice who was joined by V’ghn the bad boy of Grenada, was accompanied by his Band “The Top5”

Carnival 2023 has brought us many beautiful collaborations and so it was no surprise that there were several on the night. Nailah Blackman and Skinny Fabulous came together not once but twice (at the end of each other solo performance) to pull on the audience’s heart string with the touching lyrics and beautiful melody of their collab “Come Home”. The crowd response showed that this is a serious contender for the Road March.

The big surprise of the night was the appearance of reggae and dancehall superstar Christopher Martin who joined Farmer Nappy on stage to perform their hit song “Wet Me Down”. Their blended voice and movements although spontaneous seem well rehearsed and were a welcome delight to patrons.

Voice the artist was joined on stage by Grenada’s bad boy V’ghn to perform the remixed of V’ghn hit “Finally”. Their stage presence and the blending of their voices were impressive as they also paid tribute to their mentor the late Blaxx who passed recently.

The ‘Soca For Her’ franchise pride itself in showcasing top female soca artists under one roof. Besides Nailah Blackman, the other two soca divas two grace the stage were the unmistakable Patrice Roberts and the unshakeable Nadia Batson. Both brought their A-game and delivered many of their favorite hits to an appreciative crowd.

Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to congratulate Randy Glasgow Production and all who had a hand in the successive renditions of ‘Soca For Her’. For our full coverage of the event, check our YouTube Playlist
