“How are you today?” I asked
“I’m wonderful, and you?” she replied
“Oh I am excellent. It’s beautiful today
And when am I seeing you?” I asked
But there was silence in her reply followed by mild laughter
What is she hiding behind that laughter; I wondered
I noticed she does this to evade giving an answer
But why? There is electricity and chemistry between us
Maybe my math doesn’t add up
Or our biological attraction lacks conviction
“Are you at work, can you talk?” I asked.
In a sultry voice, she whispered
“Yeah I’m at work, I’m alone, I could talk.”
“This weekend Machel is at the Garden,
You down with that?” I asked
Again, there was a silence and a flirtatious laughter
What does she think I’m after?
Why the resistance to my persistence?
Who is causing her to think twice? I pondered
Can’t she tell I still long to experience her?
It was over twenty years ago, carnival Monday, we met and fell in love
Our conversations were often filled with laughter
And our love making were wild and crazy
For she knew how to indulge the animal in me
I never felt such passion with a flame so intense
Never knew love with a romance so divine
But with the twist and turns of time our parts separated
And not until a couple of months ago, by chance, we meet again
Age has a way of altering the body
But our voice, smile and laughter are of the spirit; they seldom change
I still find her sexy and comely with her cute dimples and luscious lips
And when she perused my body I saw an amorous look in her eyes
Since our schedules were time sensitive
We exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch
“I was thinking about you last night” she whispered
“About what? What were you thinking of?” I elicited
“Just reminiscing and thinking about, when we used to.” She paused
In the silence, I could hear her swallowing her feelings
And I could sense that after all these years, I am still in her system
“Continue, I am listening” I urged her on
Again, there was silence and laughter
“Oh my supervisor is here; talk to you later my dear.”
And with that said the connection went dead
Leaving her silent laughter echoing in my head
