The Solitude singer, Lila Ike, has turned the heads of many with several recent social media posts. On Sunday night, Ike gave us front-row seats into her life where she shared some personal details. Disclosed were her sexual interests as well as some unfortunate happenings in her past. Born Alecia Grey, Ike pulled apart the curtains of her life and showed what’s behind them in a series of tweets fired off of her Twitter account. However, the one that had and still continues to have everyone shocked is this very candid tweet: “I am Lila Ike I am into women and I’ve been making reggae music”. This revelation was made along with that of her being molested and raped in the past via the following Tweets: “I’ve been raped” and “Molested”.
But what prompted these revelations? It seemed like someone is using blackmail against the reggae artiste’ as Ike typed: “If pictures are released I said it here”. About the pictures she’s referring to, Lila in an Instagram Live video said: “Dem wah expose wah? True mi have a picture with a girl? True me have a picture with a girl?” Via her Instagram story, a clearly fed up Lila wrote: “They have been trying to kill me day 1. Reggae music will never die even if a girl who loves a woman is singing it.” Then she wondered, “So what if I’m into women? My music isn’t real?” Though, to the person against her she encouraged them to “Expose all you want”. Though who is behind this?
According to Urban Islandz, in the whirlwind of comments generated by the Instagram Live, it was revealed that last year, a female reggae artiste was flaunting being knowledgable of the ladies Koffee, Sevana, and Lila Ike herself being lesbians. With this claim, she threatened to put what she knew before the public. However, this could very well be the person behind the threats against the In.Digg.Nation Collective songstress. With Jamaica being known for being less-than-friendly where anything same-sex is concerned, the intent behind it would most likely be to tarnish Ike’s image.
Through it all though, fellow artistes have expressed their support for Lila Ike. Blvk H3ro tweeted “nobody doesn’t even know fully wats up so before you speculate and fuel hysteria wait until we get more information in regards to Lila”. Jesse Royal also displayed loyalty by also tweeting: “U Covered Inna Real Life…Love U Sis @LilaIkeJa”. Ike was recently spotted in the studio with the latest dancehall sensation, Skeng, and after the tweets and Instagram Live, has been said to be safe.
