Protoje’s “Third Time’s The Charm” made the list (9oth) in Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Albums for all genres in 2022. Moreover, the song “Late at Night” featuring Lila Ike is in the top 100 songs list for songs released this year. Third Time’s the Charm was released by In.Digg.Nation Collective/Six Course Records/RCA Records, and was nominated in the Best Reggae Album category of the 65th Grammy Awards.
The Jamaican Reggae artist Protoje is no stranger to the evolution of music, as his sixth studio album, “Third Time’s the Charm,” is a charming combination of reggae songs with unique twists. What is described by Myreggaeville as the “‘natural companion’ both musically and thematically to Protoje’s previous release, 2020’s “In Search Of Lost Time” and the first album in the ‘time trilogy’, 2018’s “A Matter of Time,” this latest album takes reggae to new heights by incorporating elements of classic and neo-soul, rock and hip-hop.
Some tracks from the album which are received, are “The Hills,” “Here Comes The Morning Sun,” and “Incient Stepping.” The album also features the talent of Lila Ike on the track “Late at Night.” The smooth song hinges off of “Children of The Night,” the Stylistics. With all this ingenuity it is no surprise that the album gained a spot as one of the top 100 albums of the year in all Genres. Moreover the song “Late at Night” is in the top 100 songs released this year.
Other Jamaican artists to make the list are Gifted by Koffee (number 38th) and Out: Side by Runkus x Toddla T (94th). Out: Side was released by Delicious Vinyl Island, has 10 tracks and features collaborations with Chronixx, Zenya, Ky-Mani Marley and Francis Nooks.
