Nicki Minaj’s Vaccine Tweet Lands Her In Hot Seat

Written by: Lesandra Scott

The White House has entered the chat.

It seems like Nicki Minaj had a case of ‘Twitter fingers’ earlier this week which has landed her in a very public and very hot, hot seat.  Currently, Minaj, who is a native of Trinidad and Tobago, has the attention of prominent figures in high places in society. The first, her island’s Health Minister, Dr. Terrence Deyalsingh, and secondly, the United States’ White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki; and to be honest it isn’t in a flattering light.

Apparently, the Queen of Rap dominated headlines earlier this week on September 13th when she posted a tweet to her more than 22.6 million followers that the Met Gala required attendees to be vaccinated, and that she’d get the shot when “I feel I’ve done enough research”. Then, later that day, Nicki Minaj told her millions of followers a tale of the effect of the Covid-19 vaccine taken by a friend of a family member in Trinidad.

Minaj in the post said that the friend was left with swollen testicles and he was said to be impotent. Immediately after her tweet, several people pointed out that that particular “side effect” is completely unrelated to Covid-19 vaccines and it was highly possible that the individual contracted an STD. Folks were saying this was especially plausible as it could have been his “last hurrah” seeing as his girlfriend called off their wedding.  Also nodding to the lack of relation between the friend’s condition and the Covid-19 vaccine were several verified accounts, among them scientists and doctors.

In Trinidad, Dr. Deyalsingh chalked it up as a false claim, the Minister had this to say: “As we stand now, there is absolutely no reported such side effect or adverse event of testicular swelling in Trinidad, Deyalsingh continued, “Unfortunately, we wasted so much time yesterday running down this false claim.”

Accused of spreading misinformation about the vaccine, Minaj revealed that she was invited to the White House to talk about the vaccine with Dr. Anthony Fauci and Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy. However, according to the White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, that was simply not the case.

Psaki said; “We offered a call with Nicki Minaj and one of our doctors to answer questions she had about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. This is pretty standard and something we do all the time”. Additionally, she said, “I want you all to know that we engage all the time with people who have big public platforms or profiles”.

In an interview on Tuesday, Dr. Fauci who is the leading infectious disease expert publicly dismissed the swollen testicles claim being linked to the vaccines: “There’s no evidence that it happens, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen”. Painted as a liar? Nicki Minaj addressed these claims via Instagram Live earlier today, September 16th, and was careful to announce that she has proof of the White House’s invitation.  You see, sitting in on that call with her, according to Mrs. Petty, was her publicist Joseph “Joe” Carozza and her new manager who is also Shenseea’s and The Weeknd’s, Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby.

Though, making their support of the rapper known were Dancehall Queen, Spice, and veteran in the Dancehall ting, Macka Diamond. In the words of Spice,

“Onika you are under attack because you’re black and intelligent. When we are too educated we become a problem to society. May God watch over you and cover every step you take”.

Whereas Macka Diamond expressed herself by saying,

United we stand divided we fall.. Most black people still don’t get you are a strong-minded black woman and you are blessed God is in control blessed love stay focus and prayed up”.

Whew chile, this is alot to process but we’ll love to hear your thoughts on this entire situation. Do you think Nicki Minaj claims are false? Feel free to sound off in the comments below!
