Nicki Minaj Announces Mixtape Re-release, New Album & Surprises

Written by: Nekisha Cyrus

After almost a six-month hiatus, Nicki Minaj returns with major news, new music, and a few surprises for her fans.

The Queen of Rap and new mommy went live on Instagram with almost one million viewers joining in as she announced that she will be re-releasing her 2009 mixtape, ‘Beam Me Up Scotty’ to celebrate the (12) year anniversary of her breakout mixtape. The mixtape for the first time ever will now be available on all digital streaming platforms along with three new tracks ‘Fractions, a remix of Skillibeng’s ‘Crocodile Teeth’ (which was originally released last year), and ‘Seeing Green’ featuring Lil Wayne and Drake who also joined her during her Live.

The Trini-born Rapper, shared with fans that the re-release ‘is just to get back to the basics a lil bit, to the essence of why she started rapping’. But the music surprise didn’t quite stop there, Nicki also revealed that she is indeed working on a new album and documentary that she is very excited about. Not wanting to let the cat out of the bag, she didn’t reveal too much about the project, but she did confirm that it will be coming very soon.

In some more Nicki news, it seems like she may be ready to open up to her fans outside of music. In a letter she posted on her website, Nicki talked about the death of her father Robert Maraj, who was the victim of a hit and run accident in New York in February this year. She had this to say:
“Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be missed”.

She also expressed how much she is indeed enjoying motherhood since giving birth last September to her son who she calls ‘Papa Bear’.

“I’ve also been completely overwhelmed with joy & fulfilment in the world of Papa Bear. Each day creates a new & fascinating, magical memory that I hide far away into a little cute compartment of my heart; vowing never to forget any of it. Like, He’s just a cute liddo marshmellow, I can’t take it.

She also talked about capturing him saying ‘Mama’ on camera for the first time and that his favorite movie to watch is Madagascar (Escape 2 Africa).

And it seems like Nicki may also have a little Netflix addiction when it comes to the series ‘The Crown’, as she wrote:

“The great Kenya Barris recommended I watch it & I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s safe to say I’ve watched every single episode of every single season at least 5 times each. Lol. Yikes. I Know. I can’t get enough of Clare Foy’s perfect face. I want to eat it. It just does the right thing in every single scene. Lmao.
