New Fire Festival 2019: Transforming Mind, Body and Spirit

Written by: Nekisha Cyrus

Labelled as the ‘Trini Coachella’, this year New Fire hosted its 4th edition of their premier annual eco-friendly festival on April 12-14th at the Ortinola Estate, St. Joseph. The three day experience included a weekend of camping, workshops, yoga, art, dance, food, music and so much more.

Speaking of music, CEH attended the Saturday Night Music concert and here is an inside peek of what we witnessed.

Jivanna

Jivanna

This year’s event featured some of the very best in Trinidad and Tobago’s diverse music scene. We heard from the beautiful singer Jivanna, who blessed us with her melodic vocals and musicianship.

Chinaka and Dancers

Fashion and talent coincided as Chinaka dressed in a stylish white ensemble performed. She even gave us a little taste of her dancing skills, as she closed off her performance alongside her two female dancers.

Caleb Hart

An energetic highlight of the night came from Tobagonian Reggae singer Caleb Hart, who had the crowd dancing and singing along with his spirited and engaging performance.

Another crowd favorite came from Freetown Collective who brought passion and positivity to the stage as expected, as they had the crowd on their feet singing along word for word to their many hits.

Isasha

Also gracing the stage was Trinidad Reggae artiste Isasha, who blessed us with some very powerful vocals. He also paid tribute to musical brother Million Voice who passed away last year, singing a heartfelt rendition of their collab ‘I Know Jah’.

Vizion Musiq Entertainment band

The diverse musical styling of the Vizion Musiq Entertainment band was heard throughout the night as they performed alongside many of the talented performers featured and also blessed us with some solo performances as well.

David Rudder

However, the main highlight of the night and the first ever ‘Master of Fire’ feature was Trinbagonian Calypso icon David Rudder, who closed off the show with an enjoyable trip down memory lane as he performed many of his well-known hits including ‘Calypso Music’ and ‘Trini to the Bone’. And was even called back on stage for an encore performance by the crowd.

Other noteworthy mentions of the night’s festivities also included Solman, Nex Chapter, Nickolai Salcedo with Gyazette, Richarde Bereaux and many more. So many talented artistes graced the stage and contributed to what some are calling the best New Fire Festival experience thus far, while others are already hinting that they can’t wait for next year.
