New Chutney Soca 2021 Releases

Written by: Jamel Grahame

It is the time of year to gather with ‘Friends and Famalay’ and ‘Nack ah Ting’ as new Chutney soca music are coming out of Trinidad and Guyana. With ‘Chutney Soca Monarch 2021’ schedule to take place virtually in Trinidad in the later part of January and Mashramani soon in Guyana, many of the top contenders are releasing their songs on social media so as to gain an advantage in popularity before the competitions.

Trinidad has been a leading contributor to the Chutney Soca Scene for many years, especially, during the Carnival Season. We have seen hits from Nigel Gobin, Prince JP, and Carnival staple Rikki Jai, and K. I. and the band. The songs are generally culturally themed and focused on issues such as the global pandemic and other pop culture relics. An early favorite coming out of Trinidad is Raymond and Dilenadan’s ‘Nack ah Ting’ which packs quite a cultural punch.

On the Guyana front the releases have begun with some of our old familiars making an early claim to the season as well as some notable newcomers like Anthony Batson. Artistes including,  Viccadi Singh’s ‘and Nishal B ‘have already made their contributions.
