CEH March 2023 New Reggae Releases Spotlights Queen Omega’s “Freedom Legacy”

Written by: Adela Scotland

The Month of April has Blessed the Reggae World with several new albums and Eps from both old and upcoming artists. Each album has its own personality and unique style to it which makes for a wide variety of new songs to add to your personal reggae library. In the midst of a bustling month of new releases, Trinidadian-born reggae artist Queen Omega’s new album entitled Freedom Legacy has 13 powerful songs to get you in the groove all April long.

Queen Omega, born as Jeneile Osborne is a singer from a musical family in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. Her passion for music was inspired by the great singers of her youth such as Aretha Franklin and Whitney Huston along with the musical genres of Jazz and Calypso. She started performing at age 9 by entering local talent shows;  writing her own calypsos and rapping on national television. She then went on to do background vocals for local producer Kenny Philips, and many top Soca acts, both in the studio and on stage. However, Osborne had a deep love for Reggae and Dancehall and was later drawn to Rastafari and started writing lyrics with roots and reality themes.

In 2001 she released her debut album Queen Omega and launched her starbound career. Just a year before she travelled to Jamaica with the Solomon Band and was discovered by Mickey D only to go on to release hit after hit. Throughout her career, Queen Omega has performed with several Caribbean legends such as Buju Banton and has toured the world.

Her 2023 album Freedom Legacy marks her return to the music scene. The album features 13 songs that combine new roots reggae and dancehall music for a powerful listening experience.

We also hope that you will enjoy our specially curated playlist of new releases for April 2023.
