CEH June 2022 New Dancehall Releases: Spotlights Samantha J’s ‘Push Ya Luck’

Written by: Nekisha Neicy Cyrus

Jamaica Dancehall Sweetheart, Samantha J is back with a brand new release called ‘Push Ya Luck’.

The popular Kingston-born Singer, Songwriter and Model burst onto the music scene at the age of 16 with her chart-topping hit single ‘Tight Skirt’ in 2013 which sampled the Red Rat’s classic ‘Tight Up Skirt’. She also received the ‘Youth View Award’ in the Breakout Celebrity category that same year. Since then she has given us a very diverse playlist of hits which includes ‘Baby Love’ ft. R. City, ‘Bad Like Yuh’, ‘Rockets’, ‘Picture’ ft. Gyptian, ‘Show Off’ ft. Shenseea & Azaryah, ‘Hot Gyal Anthem’ and many more.

After taking some time away to give birth to her son Trillion in 2020, the Los Angeles-based singer and new mommy is officially back and giving her fans a taste of her brand new release and steamy visuals with her latest single ‘Push Ya Luck’. According to Samantha J, during an interview with jamaica-gleaner.com;

‘The CEO of Anka Music Group provided the rhythm a few years ago, and though she loved it from first listen, it was not until playing it during a recent “me-time shower session that words came flowing,” she said, adding that in order to not forget them, “I grabbed my phone, risking it getting wet, and recorded a few voice notes.”

In her new music video, Samantha is seen working out and also dancing, guided by choreographer Richy ‘Squirrel’ Jackson, who is Lady Gaga’s go-to guy for choreography and who has worked with many international superstars. The music video was shot in Compton, California by Damian Fyffe, a Jamaican director who resides in Florida (see featured video).
