CEH January Top New Chutney Soca Releases For 2023

Written by: David Lawrence

With the 2023 Carnival season in full swing in Trinidad & Tobago, an abundance of new chutney soca releases is hitting the airwaves and social media apps. Many chutney soca artistes, mainly from Trinidad and Guyana, are preparing themselves for the upcoming International Chutney Soca Monarch competition and hoping that their new material will win them the crown and get them new fans.

This year’s crop of chutney soca music is a mixture of beautiful melodies, conscious lyrics, and of course drink and be-happy songs. Heavy on the lyrics with words that ring true to life is Moses Charles – “Woman”, Vanita Willie – “Cherish Memories”, and Anooj D – “Jealous Heart”. Veekash sahadeo – “I Used To Know” presents a catchy melody with a sing-along chorus with lyrics about a guy who is easily influenced by a girl he used to know.  A common theme running through Vicardi Singh – “Drink In Peace”, Raymond Ramnarine & DilENadan – “Over You”, and Tony Cutz –  “Dont Change Me” is the story of a broken heart finding solace in a bottle of Johnnie or Hennie; this storyline keeps paying dividends in chutney music. And what about living “The King Life” (Omardath Maraj) by having 2 women because “Two Is Better Than One” (Captain Kendal); Lol.

Take a listen and enjoy want we have lined up for you below.
