In an interview on Lilly Singh’s late-night show, Machel Montano got philosophical giving viewers a glimpse into his current state of mind on Carnival, Soca, Marriage, and his Evolution.

Lilly Singh, a close friend of Machel, is the host of her own show ‘A Little Late with Lilly Singh’; the show aired early Ash Wednesday morning at  12:35 am (ET) on NBC.

On Carnival, Machel Montano said:

“Carnival is a celebration of culture; it’s actually a celebration about the life that we are as a people. It is our creativity and also our diversity … ”

On his Marriage on Carnival Monday:

“ When you need to settle down, a relationship is important to keep you stable, to have somebody to have your back. I felt like that love was there … that would be my best friend. I felt like this is a good example for the young men in my country to see that you could dedicate your life to someone else.”

And on his evolution:

“You want to be one with yourself, you want to truly know yourself. So I said, you know what? I have to be a little more conscious that I’m getting older. I want longevity; I want to be more conscious of what I share because there are so much situations on the planet. We can’t just party all night when you know there are issues for us to address. so, I started slowing down on the partying, I started meditating and I realized we can have fun without being, you know like, all crazy, and just focused and it’s really about me going in trying to say where do I go, where do I get that strength to find something new…”

The interview ended with Machel Montano doing an extempo (impromptu song) to Lilly Singh.
