Living On Sunshine

Written by: David Lawrence

A phenom of the day, he ain’t come out here to play

Large and in charge, don’t mind he wears no barge

He keeps bigging up himself

With bling bling on his finger, cellular in his ear

Driving in his Toyota, with his woman near

Pumping up the music, he wants the world to hear

“Who am I? More than them girls them sugar”

And all he wants is just to make a dollar

Just to do his thing, not watch the world spin

He’s a fashion statement resisting the establishment

He’s the man in demand

Got to keep bigging up himself; he’s living on sunshine

There’s no profit in being poor and polite

He refuses to lose without a fight

His daddy worked hard all his life, with nothing to show

And now his unconformity has caused calamity

The status quo thinks he’s dangerous

So, his rehabilitation is their intention

But what did they expect with their insidious neglect

For him to lay down and die? NO!

Now he’s up close and personal and in their face

Rapping on the radio, dancing in his video

Demanding nuff respect; bigging up himself

Got to keep bigging up himself; he’s living on sunshine

He’s doing what he can just to be a man

Fighting poverty and insanity

His ego let him be, his spirit running free

And no one cares a damn, nor will they lend a helping hand

They keep demoralizing him with inequality

So, he fashioned his own world and sits upon the throne

With the sun rays he bootstrapped

Threw the monkey of his back

Rewrote all the codes and now he’s in flip mode

You see, for him the only thing that’s free is time, sunshine and rhetoric

Yes, rhetoric! From them politician, rhetoric!

Got to keep bigging up himself; he’s living on sunshine
