Lila Ike: The Golden Girl Of Reggae Sumfest 2019

Written by: David Lawrence

Lila Ike, a protegee of reggae superstar Protoje, was the Golden girl of Reggae Sumfest 2019. The stage was set for her by her mentor Protoje who already had the crowd in a frenzy after performing his two mega hits ‘Like That’ and ‘Blood Money’ and when he passed the bator (mic) to her, she took it and ran to stardom.

Dressed in a golden suit she electrified the crowd, and those watching the live stream, with her scintillating golden voice, dynamic energy and stage presence as she passionately pleaded to her lover for a ‘Second Chance’. When she was finished singing, she left Catherine Hall in Montego Bay buzzing with excitement; an excitement that rippled through the internet as demonstrated in the comments on the YouTube live stream. Many consider her performance as one of the best of Reggae Sumfest 2019. It was clear that she made a lasting impression; winning instant fans who texted that she performed like a veteran and were trilled by her vocal tone and singing ability.

Born in Manchester, Jamaica in 1994, Lila Ike (Alecia Grey) made her debut last April with the single ‘Biggest Fan’. She then went on to released ‘Gotti Gotti’,Second Chance’ (her biggest hit to date) and her latest ‘Where I’m Coming From’. She also collaborated with Protoje and Agent Sasco on the very successful track ‘Not Another Word’ a song that the trio also performed successfully last night.

We at Caribbean entertainment hub have been playing Lila Ike music on our radio station since we discovered her in the middle of 2018. We are excited that her appearance at Reggae Sumfest has introduced her to the world at large, and like many, consider her a breathe of fresh air and a needed injection into dancehall music today.
