Lil Rick invited patrons to the stage

Lil Rick Shelled Down London

Written by: Simone Tull

Even the frigid London temperature could not deter soca lovers from converging at Scala Night Club on Friday night for Climaxxx. A long line snaked around the building as a heavy Barbadian contingent, with their tell-tale flags, came out to see two of their own: Jagwa De Champ and Lil Rick.

With the venue packed from wall to wall the anticipation was palpable as the capacity crowd waited for the first performer to hit the stage. Bashment soca artiste Jagwa De Champ delivered an impressive performance and had the ladies screaming in appreciation as soon as he stepped on stage, just after 3am. Fans followed each instruction in favourites like Ride, Bounce, and Correction Time. During his set the performer invited an eager fan to show her ‘bouncing skill’ using a chair for her prop.  He created an even greater stir when he went into the crowd to dance with one of the excited patrons.

Jagwa was the appetiser for the main act. When Lil Rick emerged, he delivered the standard high energy performance with which he has become synonymous. The consummate entertainer was drenched in sweat as he performed many of his big hits including newer favourites like Breakfast in Bed and It Aint Me. He excited with crowd pleasers like Monster Winer and Go Dung while thrilling vociferous patrons with oldies like Can’t Wait and Hard Wine. He too invited some patrons to the stage to see if they could keep pace with his trademark waistline gyrations. The action- packed production provided a phenomenal post-Christmas celebration.
