Written by: Nekisha Cyrus

Congratulations are in order for Jamaica’s Reggae and Dancehall Sensation, Koffee who took home the NAACP Image Awards for her 2020 summer quarantine anthem ‘Lockdown’.

The annual NAACP Image Awards is an annual awards ceremony presented by the US-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, honors outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature. Koffee’s ‘Lockdown’ reigned victorious in the ‘Outstanding International Song’ category, beating out other nominated songs such as Buju Banton’s ‘Blessed’, ‘Pressure’ (Remix) which also features Koffee, Davido featuring Tiwa Savage’s ‘Tanana’ and ‘Tempatation’ also by Tiwa Savage.

The ‘Toast’ singer took to Twitter to announce her win with a post that simply said:

‘Thank You @naacpimageawards’

‘Lockdown’ which was produced by Dane Ray, to date has racked up over 46 million views and also holds the record for the fastest track by a Jamaican Reggae artiste to surpass a million views on YouTube in 48 hours.

It seems like the awards just keep rolling in for Koffee as she also won her first Grammy Award for ‘Best Reggae Album’ in 2020 for her EP album ‘Rapture’, making her the first female and youngest artiste to take home the award.
