Kes is spreading the good gospel of Caribbean music to the world. The Trinbagonian Soca Superstar recently made his very first appearance on the popular New York-based Radio show, The Breakfast Club alongside Angela Yee & DJ Envy where he spoke very candidly about a lot of things.

During the full interview, Kes explained to DJ Envy and Angela Yee the difference between Calypso & Soca, as he described Soca as ‘the soundtrack of carnivals around the world’. While also giving the host and viewers a little history lesson on how carnival started, what it signifies, and the true culture of carnival.

While talking about his music he describes his particular style as primarily Soca, with a bit of Reggae & Dancehall fused with Pop & Rock elements. Kes even shared a very diverse list of musical influences which included Van Halen, Sting, The Police, Bob Marley, Mighty Sparrow, Mighty Shadow, Ataklan, Marvin Gaye, and even Boyz II Men.

On a more personal note, Kes shared how the pandemic has affected him especially after he has been touring extensively for many years. However,  he explained how much he appreciated getting the time to take a much-needed break, spend time with his daughter and get some long-overdue rest after Trinidad shut down right after carnival 2020.

And soca lovers will also be pleased to hear that Kes has revealed that a new album is already on the way with new releases coming later this year while sharing his views about the possibility of Carnival in 2022. Check out the full interview below!

To date, Kes joins our Bajan Soca Queen, Alison Hinds, as being the only two soca artistes to be interviewed on the popular radio show. Angela even praised Kes for his virtual performance last year during ‘Angela Yee Day’ in 2020.
