Written by: Nekisha Neicy Cyrus

Kes the Band is taking soca music to the world as the first soca act and artiste from Trinidad and Tobago to be featured on ‘Global Spin’.

So what exactly is ‘Global Spin’, you’re probably wondering?

Well soca lovers, Global Spin is the Recording Academy/ GRAMMY’s new digital performance series that highlights artists from around the world. It airs biweekly on Tuesdays at 10am PT/ 1pm ET on the official Recording Academy/ Grammy’s YouTube channel and social media sites. The Recording Academy / GRAMMY is the world’s leading society of musical professionals and is dedicated to celebrating, honoring, and sustaining music’s past, present, and future. Each episode of the ‘Global Spin’ series has featured a performance from a notable artist or group, celebrating both the creators and their home countries since its official launch in September 2021.

According to Shawn Thwaites, Genre Manager, Global Music at the Recording Academy, this is what he had to share:

“The most innovative band coming out of Trinidad and Tobago, KES is pushing the sonic limits of soca and calypso,”

“Their blend of soca, R&B, rock, and soul are a musical callaloo of goodness.”

Now, this is huge, as Kes The Band gives an exhilarating performance of ‘Jolene’ their 2022 soca hit which has already amassed almost 500,000 views in just (4) weeks since it’s official release, and the music video is also currently making its rotation on BET Soul.

Throughout the years, apart from giving us soca hit after soca hits effortlessly, Kes The Band has always had its eyes set on the global stage. With many notable achievements over the years from performing at ‘Angela Yee Day’ in 2020, being featured at the Essence Fest in 2021, to making their US television debut on ‘Late Night with Steven Colbert’, and also appearing on the popular New York-based Radio show, ‘The Breakfast Club’; they have already accomplished so many huge milestones with many more still to come.

A special congratulation goes out to Kes The Band, which consists of Kees Dieffenthaller (vocalist), Kees’ brothers Jon (guitar) and Hans (drums) Dieffenthaller, and bassist Riad Boochoon (bass). We would also like to mention their beloved  long-time keyboardist and musical director Ricardo Rameshwar, known as Ricky Bobby passed away on February 1, 2022
