Reigning joint Soca Monarch and Road March Kings, Kes are currently investigating the possibility of taking copyright infringement action with regard to technology giant Apple and California-based Island Records artiste, Remi Wolf for musical recordings being used publicly that appear similar to Kes’ 2017 release, “Hello”.
Apple recently launched a video advertisement for their new iPhone 12 Max and Mini cellular phones which features a remix of Wolf’s song’ “Hello Hello Hello” (Polo and Pam Remix). The original song is listed on her five-song EP entitled, I’m Allergic To Dogs! – which was released on EMI/Island Records in June 2020. A swell of online support and positive comments were sent by fans around the globe to Kes’ social media pages last weekend, as most believed the commercial to be a derivative of the band’s Carnival 2018 hit song and a major breakthrough for the band and the Soca genre.
Kes’ new management team of Damon DeGraff and Evan Vogel said that they are prepared to take the necessary actions to secure the band’s interests and have already begun the process. They said:
“‘Hello Hello Hello’ sounded familiar — so much so that Kes’ fans started writing in and congratulating us. However, it turns out that our dream of working with Apple has perhaps come in the form of musical theft and cultural appropriation. We are working assiduously to take the proper course of action.”
