Also sending her well wishes was America’s track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who was ruled out of the Olympics after being temporarily banned for testing positive for cannabis. She applauded Jamaica’s sweep of the 100 metres sharing the following via Twitter:
“Congratulations to the ladies of Jamaica for the clean sweep,”
“Powerful, strong black women dominating the sport.”
Did you know that this is the second time the Jamaican sprint queens made a clean sweep in Women’s 100m? The first was at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where Shelly-Ann Fraser won the gold medal with a personal best time of 10.78 seconds, alongside Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart who won silver together in identical times of 10.98 seconds.
This recent win now officially marks the seventh clean sweep in the history of the Olympic Games Women’s Athletics.
