He’s saving the world one joke at a time.
Meet Trini-born, Canada-based comedian Jean Paul, who has been a major part of the comedy circuit for some time now. With over twenty years in the business, Jean Paul has no regrets when it comes to the decision he made earlier on in life to quit his job at the Trinidad and Tobago Consulate in Canada in 1998 to pursue his love and passion for comedy.
Although he was born in Trinidad and Tobago, Jean relocated with his family when he was an infant to Canada. He recalls knowing from the age of 12 years old, that comedy was his calling. At first, he wanted to be a pilot, so that he can travel the world, however, coincidentally, the comedy arena has afforded him that same pleasure. As a well-known comedian, to date, his career has afforded him the opportunity to travel and perform on many stages throughout Canada, South America, the USA, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and many countries in the Caribbean.
Jean Paul
Known for his witty jokes and commanding stage persona, these unique qualities have allowed him to showcase his talent on many of comedy’s legendary stages, such as the Apollo in New York, the Comedy Store in London, the Place des Arts in Montreal, and the FLOW Comedy Café in Jamaica and more. Not to mention, when it comes to the comedy fest and festivals, he is definitely no stranger and has performed at Just For Laughs, Halifax, and Winnipeg. But his comedian range doesn’t quite stop there, he has also written material and toured with famous Canadian stand-up comedian, actor, and producer, Russell Dominic Peters.
Outside of the stand-up comedy arena, Jean’s talents have also been featured on both television and film. He has portrayed a wide assortment of characters in the CBC special Thick and Thin, appeared multiple times as a guest on the CBC’s Strombo Show and on CTV’s A Russell Peters Christmas Special. He has also played the popular Fluff E, the Hip-Hop Bunny on the Comedy Network’s Buzz Show, featured in Home Again and A Universal Language; and have been nominated for a variety of prestige awards, such as Tim Sims’ Award for up-and-coming comedians, and a Gemini Award for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.
Although many comedians and entertainers have been seriously affected by the covid-19 pandemic, Jean hasn’t allowed it to slow him down entirely. He has still been performing and doing shows virtually such as the ‘The Minority Report’ quarantine comedy show (which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary) alongside many popular comedians while starting his very own podcast ‘The Kitchen Table’, which he hosts alongside Musician Hans Dieffenthaller. To date, their podcast has featured some of your favorite comedians, entertainers, and artistes such as Alison Hinds, Tessanne Chin, Affion Crockett, Errol Fabien, Kees Dieffenthaller, Nadia Batson, and many more each week.
Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to congratulate our Trinidadian brother on all his achievements thus far, and we wish him much more success in all of his future endeavors. If you’ll like to stay connected with Jean Paul, be sure to connect with him here.
