Haitian-American authors and sisters, Maika and Maritza Moulite makes their very first book debut with the young adult fiction ‘Dear Haiti, Love Alaine’. This exceptional debut by the sister duo captures a sparkling new voice and irrepressible heroine in a celebration of storytelling sure to thrill fans of Nicola Yoon, Ibi Zoboi, and Jenna Evans Welch.
Told in a unique and engaging epistolary style through emails, journal entries, texts, letters and more, the novel follows the story of a 17 year old girl, Alaine Bouleparnt who plays a prank at school in retaliation to classmates for making fun of her mother, a famous television journalist. Alaine is then sent to Haiti for a “spring volunteer immersion project.”
According to co-author Maritza Moulite, “It’s a story of when keeping it real goes wrong”. It hits many topics including Haiti’s history, the women of the Haitian Revolution and Vodou. Additionally, the colour of red used on the book cover is also the same red of the Haiti flag.
The YA (young adult) fiction was originally published on September 3, 2019 and the debut novel has been receiving tons of great reviews thus far, including:
“I couldn’t put Dear Haiti, Love Alaine down!” —New York Times bestselling author Jasmine Guillory
“Delightful.” —Essence magazine

“Remarkable, funny, and whip-smart.” —Ibi Zoboi, author of American Street, National Book Award finalist
