Grenada’s Sabrina Francis Stars in Disney+ ‘Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays’

Since early December on Disney+ Sabrina Francis can be seen in ‘Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays’ as she showcases to the world what Christmas is like in her homeland Grenada.

It all started with her penning a letter to the Capella group Pentatonix which she narrates through video. In this letter, she curiously asked the group if by chance the album they’re actively seeking inspiration for was to be dedicated to anyone special. This was followed up by stating that Christmas heavily reminds her of her grandmother who she lost “a few years ago.” The video which captures Grenada also shows how she spends Christmas Day with family and friends.

So when Pentatonix needed inspiration for their annual holiday album they decided to go the global route. According to the singers, “a little Disney magic sends us on a whirlwind tour around the world, discovering holiday traditions and inspiration from Pentatonix fans across the globe. The journey leads the group to realize that wherever we find ourselves, it really is a small world, after all!” Also, when they said “across the globe” they meant just that because caught up in the tour of inspiration was Sabrina Francis who represented to the fullest for Grenada.

In the video, Sabrina said that every year her family cooks “a pot” by a river. The “pot” in question is Grenada’s National Dish, Oil Down and the video shows just how this dish is prepared. Reflecting on back then when her grandmother would cook to present-day, Sabrina said “No one would ever cook as well as my grandmother did and it’s still delicious.” The Disney+ video captured Sabrina in her element with good food, family (including her mom and sister), and friends (including Jonathan Francis and Laura-Lisa Richardson) with who she danced and sang with. It all ended with Sabrina belting out rich notes of ‘Joy to the World’ backed by a steel band orchestra which was then continued by Pentatonix back in their studio. The on-the-ground production team in Grenada included the Grenada Film Company, Teddy Frederick, Kaiem Joseph, Emily Rapier, and Kered Clement.

Fun fact: Pentatonix member and beatboxer of the group, Kevin Oluwole Olusola’s mom, Curline Paul, is Grenadian-born.

“I can’t imagine what this would have meant to baby Sabrina growing up watching Disney. This was the opportunity of a lifetime! Thank you Pentatonix and Disney+.”
