In the popular words of Trinbagonian former Calypso Monarch, Devon Seale and now made viral by the Honorable Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, the phrase ‘Doh Jackass De Scene’ has been trending on social media with comedic memes, remixes and so much more.
The calypso lyrics was endorsed by the Prime Minister during a press conference held on Saturday 15th May 2021, where he updated Trinidad and Tobago on the newly implemented curfew measures. The curfew was implemented in an effort to help curve the recent increase in the Covid-19 cases throughout the country. Since the PM calypso reference, persons raced online to search for the calypso only to realize that the song couldn’t be found.
Calypsonian Devon Seale even received a bit of public scrutiny due to its unavailability online. Seale sharing with Looptt, later explained that although he was inspired to do the song when the phrase became popular on social media a few months ago it was only released on Saturday. The song was composed by Christophe Grant just the Wednesday before in an estimated two hours and recorded it on his iPad, then sent on Friday for the producer, Angelo Pantin.
“When we saw the Prime Minister would be doing a press conference on Saturday at 2 pm, I called the producer and say we have to get it out before that. I sent it to John Wayne and John Gill on i95.5 and they played it on the Barbershop programme at 12. That wasn’t even the mastered version, that is why it wasn’t on social media.”
Since then, an official lyric music video has been officially released (see featured video above) and Seale and his team are now working on getting the calypso release on streaming platforms this week.
We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to encourage everyone to continue adhering to the Covid-19 protocols and to do everything in their power to stay safe. With that said here’s a little calypso message and a reminder to keep you alert.
