What do you get when two of the Caribbean’s best lyricists team up for a collaboration of a lifetime?

Well, music lovers, we’re about to find out as Jamaica’s Reggae and Dancehall icon, Bounty Killer has enlisted the Viking of Soca, Bunji Garlin for his latest album, ‘King of Kingston’. It’s simply a no-brainer, that both artistes have dominated when it comes to their lyrical prowess and freestyling abilities. So one must ask, how come it took them this long to work today musically?

Sharing with Loop News, Bunji revealed that both he and Bounty spoke about collaborating years ago.

“We always maintained an artiste link and respect from as far back as about 2006 and in the later years we always talk back and forth about doing a track so when he called me up to get this done it was like the time is now,” he said.

“The feeling is a good feeling just like the song. Bounty has always been my favorite artiste so being featured on his album is something of legend.”

Well, fans are definitely here for it and excitement continues to grow since Bunji Garlin shared the news via social media, sending fans of both artistes into hysteria when he shared the following picture and caption:

The track titled ‘Free Up’ relates to everyone who is longing to break free and loose at a party. The song recently premiered on May 6, 2021, on a London radio station by MixMasterJ.  ‘Free up‘ is produced by Jamaican producer and CEO of Birchill Music, Christopher Birchill and is also featured on the Sambana Riddim alongside Elephant Man and a few others. Birchill also joining in the excitement of the collab, had this to say:

“This record is a fun record, it is a fusion of Soca, Dancehall, Afrobeats and Reggaeton. I came up with the beat first. Bounty heard about the beat and called me and asked me to send it to him. He liked it and he wanted to link Bunji. I said that is a wicked idea, he is a wicked performer, writer, entertainer, I always wanted to work with him.”

“I remember when Bounty said they always wanted to do a song together but the timing wasn’t right. This was the perfect timing and perfect energy, the concept is about what is going on but in a fun way. Bounty heard about the beat and called me and asked me to send it to him. He liked it and he wanted to link Bunji. I said that is a wicked idea, he is a wicked performer, writer, entertainer, I always wanted to work with him,” he said.

So did this news make your day as much as it did ours? We at CEH are thrilled beyond measure for this long overdue collab. Check it out below and let us know your thoughts?
