Energising and Revolutionizing Jamaican dancehall music is what Jamaican born singer Anna Mariah aka the Music Fairy has etched in her path
With an amazing combination of vocal skills and beauty, Anna is a packaged deal ready and prepping for the international market. The former Rising Star contestant who placed second in the airing of the competition in 2016, immediately released her song “Sail Away” which became popular amongst her growing fan base who took a liking to her snazzy outfits and her edgy hairstyles.
Anna was trained at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Vocals with a Major in Jazz and Pop culture music. Her talent of writing as well as composing harmonious tunes has developed into a formidable skill which is evident in her new release “Don’t Play with my heart” and also the previous releases “Ride” and “Sail Away”.
Anna Mariah is also featured in Rhea Layne- song “SPEAKAH” which was released in late March 2018, a little too late for the carnival season in Jamaica, but I predict that with her skill set, she will be on the carnival playlist next year and for years to come. In the music video for “SPEAKAH”, Anna Mariah conjures a beat that ignites a flavour of Soca with the compliments of Dancehall visuals in a well composed Dance choreography by Shamar Bruce (a former dance student of the college).
As a first attempt to create a hybrid Dancehall/Soca genre, it was successful from start to finish. Reading every bit of semiotic throughout the music video, I must say Congrats as it was well executed.

By: Adela ScotlandNow that Afrobeat creators have the opportunity to win the prestigious award in their own category it begs the question why hasn’t Soca gotten its own category yet?
