Alison Hinds Makes Soca History On The Breakfast Club

Written by: Nekisha Neicy Cyrus

Soca music to the world, as our Caribbean Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds made history recently as the first-ever soca artiste to be interviewed on the popular New York-based Radio show, The Breakfast Club.

The morning show which was pre-recorded aired recently featuring hosts Angela Yee and Charlamagne Da God, while DJ Envy was absent. The Bajan Queen visit to the morning show was as we would say in West Indian culture ‘full of vibes’. During the interview, Alison shared how she began singing soca music, her journey as an artiste, she also educated the hosts on soca music and its influence on Caribbean culture, even sharing her list on some of the must listen to soca artistes when it comes to soca music. The list included the King of Soca, of course, Machel Montano, Kes the Band, Nadia Batson and Patrice Roberts. In addition to some of the soca artistes who have also gained international recognition and success with soca music, like Bunji Garlin, Rupee and Kevin Little.

Alison also performed this year at the third annual ‘Angela Yee Day’ which took place on Saturday 28th August 2021. ‘Angela Yee Day’ which was officially declared by New York Mayor De Blasio, celebrates Yee’s Caribbean and Brooklyn roots with an outdoor community event that includes music, food, and live performances from Hip-hop and Caribbean artists. This year’s line-up included Alison Hinds, Naomi Cowan, Shaneil Muir, Noah Powa, HoodCelebrityy, Romain Virgo, Adrian Marcel, Erick the Architect, and Capella Grey.

We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub love to see our Caribbean artistes, no matter the genre of choice, getting the love, respect, and appreciation that they most rightfully deserve as they continue to promote and take our culture globally.
