Guyana’s new Soca Monarch Champion is Adrian Dutchin. He was adjudged winner of the competition during the wee hours of Mashramani morning (February 23rd 2023).

The Monarch who to date  has 10 Mashramani titles to his name told Entertainment592 in an interview that his win was a surreal feeling:

“I was like wow, I had a feeling because I honestly was listening to everybody and I did stuff that people didn’t do and I was like I might pull this one off because they were a lot of loopholes that they left out and I took advantage of that and that was the name of the game  you used things at your advantage and a lot of them didn’t use ithe said.

Dutchin who was away from the Soca Monarch competition for years said it was the love for his song after releasing it that gave him the push to return and join the competition.

The winning song “Place Nice”  is part of a musical project that was released in January as a contribution to Guyana’s 53rd Mashramani celebration and speaks to the country’s culture and diversity.

“so shout out to everybody who was involved in the Mash Project, ShakerHd for producing an amazing song, Pahjo for sending me the Riddim and even telling me he needs me on the project and everybody that was involved in the mash project,” Dutchin stated.

During his performance the monarch announced that it would be his last Soca Monarch competition, he explained to Entertainment592 the move behind his decision

“I really plan on my music becoming even more evolved and going in more nooks and crannies of Guyana and expanding more. Soca Monarch I am done with that I’ve had my time with it, it’s time for me to give younger people a chance to get their shine and everything”.

On competition night, Dutchin secured 250 points, one point ahead of the second-place winner Diana Chapman.
